Product Description:

Filmed in Spanish (with subtitles), this deceptively simple film showcases director Alex Cox's continued interest in South American affairs. Pedro Rojas, the highway patrolman of the title, is a simple man working in an incredibly corrupt system. Pedro's job, his troubles with women, and a constant pressure for money lead him again and again into desperate, dangerous situations. HIGHWAY PATROLMAN is a little gem, a powerful, character-centered film that deserves a wider audience than its initial limited release allowed.

Plot Synopsis:

More surreal south-of-the-border fare from anarchist auteur Alex Cox. This deceptively linear film tells the story of Pedro Rojas, a simple man working in an incredibly corrupt system (the film's fictional Mexican Highway Patrol). As the film progresses, the unreality of Pedro's "beat" in the desert combines with various woman troubles to pull his life tighter and tighter into a spiral of desperation and crime.
HIGHWAY PATROLMAN is not well known in the United States, probably because it is entirely filmed in Spanish (with subtitles). But it's a little gem--a much simpler film in some ways than Alex Cox's acclaimed REPO MAN, but a very powerful, focused portrait of a small man in a big, corrupt world.
