This collection of little-known early-'70s recordings by the great New Orleans musician Dr. John was originally made for Huey P. Meaux's Houston-based Crazy Cajun label. Performed with a small group, this interesting set is heavy on the future Night Tripper's characteristic Professor Longhair-inspired piano and laid-back vocal style on cuts like "Shining as Hard as I Can" and "I Pulled the Cover Off You Two Lovers." There's also a rare example of his guitar playing (the pianist began his professional career as a New Orleans session guitar player in the '50s) on the instrumental "Flight #5."
