Though he's best known to casual observers as the man who wrote the hit Garth Brooks/George Jones duet "Beer Run," Todd Snider is an impressive performer in his own right. His first three albums, from which this compilation is drawn, find him turning out gritty, clever, twangy roots-rock/alt-country that's simultaneously light-hearted and incisive, splitting the difference between Joe Ely and Lyle Lovett.
