The strife and controversy that have plagued John Fogerty and his former band Creedence Clearwater Revival is perfectly illustrated by the mere existence of this collection. Because of various legal issues, neither Fogerty nor the rest of the band have used the original CCR moniker for years, though original members Stu Cook and Doug Clifford reformed the band as Creedence Clearwater Revisited in 1995. Featuring re-recordings of stone-cold CCR chooglers such as "Born on the Bayou," "Hey Tonight," and "Green River," it's hard to argue with the quality of the songs here. But unless one is a die-hard Creedence fan or thinks Cook and Clifford were the real engine of the band (a legitimate argument to be made, no doubt), it is equally hard not to long for the originals.
