BASIE SWINGS STANDARDS is a collection culled from the Count Basie band's late 1970s and early '80s recordings for Pablo Records. Most songs are standards from early in the 20th century, but they're rendered in the Basie post-'50s style--lots of joyfully brash brass, rich reeds, and brisk, modern swing. While devotees of modern Basie will no doubt have some or all of this material, BASIE SWINGS STANDARDS will be of importance to newcomers to and casual fans of big-band jazz.
