Although mainly known by contemporary audiences via his movies and TV commercials, Bing Crosby (1903-1977) was quite possibly the most popular singer in the middle of the 20th century. Crosby was one of the earliest artists to literally embrace electronic amplification, genially and romantically singing to the microphone instead of merely in front of it. He brought jazz influences into the American mainstream and his smooth, mellow baritone was at home with all types of songs, from sentimental Irish and Hawaiian ballads to urbane swingers. VINTAGE YEARS presents a lively selection of 20 of his pre-WWII recordings, when his career truly took off and his legendary status began to take shape.
