3 stars out of 5 -- "Blanchard still exercises expert control over the subtle slopes of mood and tone."

Inspired by his work on Spike Lee's WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE, a documentary about Hurricane Katrina, trumpeter Terence Blanchard embarked on his own exploration of the Katrina disaster with TALE OF GOD'S WILL (A REQUIEM FOR KATRINA). The album re-arranged four of Blanchard's tracks from the documentary, and adds nine new tracks, all of which are performed by Blanchard's crack quintet and a full string orchestra. A New Orleans native, Blanchard clearly has a profound investment in the city and its travails, and that feeling shines in the artful execution and aching beauty of the album.
