Marilyn finds out that marriage isn't always until death do you part...
When it's revealed that a judge (Victor Moore) has unknowingly married numerous couples before his appointment is official, the couples must decide whether or not to legally reunite.
Marilyn Monroe stars as a young mother and beauty pageant queen whose husband (David Wayne) wants her to stay home.
Ginger Rogers and Fred Allen plays a bickering radio duo act while Mitzi Gaynor shines as a pregnant bride whose husband (Eddie Bracken) is going to war.
And Zsa Zsa Gabor is a fortune-hunter with a tycoon husband (Louis Calher) in this hilarious romp about the tenderness of love - or the lack thereof!
In WE'RE NOT MARRIED, five couples find out that they are not legally married and react in all sorts of different ways (most are pretty overjoyed) in this anthology of comic vignettes. Marilyn Monroe plays a beauty queen whose husband--stuck at home with the baby--sees this turn of events as perfect leverage; Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers are co-hosts of a radio show, whose marriage is purely for ratings; Zsa Zsa Gabor is a ruthless gold-digger trying to get her millionare husband's money; Eve Arden and Paul Douglas are bored but contented ex-New Yorkers; and Eddie Bracken is a soldier who goes AWOL to remarry pregnant Mitzi Gaynor so his kid won't grow up a "you know what." Lee Marvin makes a brief appearance as Bracken's army buddy. Victor Moore is the dottering old judge who mistakenly married the couples without authorization. The various stories all have a happy ending of one sort or another, and the sanctity of marriage survives intact, despite the good-natured ribbing it receives at the hands of director Edmund Goulding (GRAND HOTEL) and producer-writer Nunnally Johnson.
A justice of the peace performs five marriages before his license officially starts, and five years later realizes his mistake--that the five couples have never been legally married. When the couples find out, each reacts in a different hilarious way, from the couple who married for business but actually hate each other, to Mrs. Mississippi, who can now try out to be Miss Mississippi, and three other pairs. The film is an early vehicle for Marilyn Monroe, and features star turns by Ginger Rogers and Fred Allen.
