Heralded as country music's first new traditionalist, John Anderson and singers such as Emmylou Harris were re-establishing the primacy of pure country music throughout the early 1980s. SUPER HITS documents the songs that made Anderson popular throughout the '80s and '90s.
Tunes such as "Swingin'," "Money in the Bank," and "My Kind of Crazy" highlight the country singer's rock edge. Scorching guitar riffs and a strong backbeat give these songs a distinctly raw flair. Anderson's Southern drawl, highlighted best by ballads such as "I Wish I Could Have Been There" and "When it Comes To You," adds a swampy twang to all 10 tracks. On the former song, Anderson sings poignantly about missing his children growing up because of his demanding touring schedule--a kind of "Cat's in the Cradle" for the '90s. Also included here is Anderson's much-loved composition, "Seminole Wind," a song about tribal wisdom and the destruction of the Everglades, which has become a new traditionalist favorite.
