Originally released on Capitol.
Liner Note Author: Al Fichera.
The Hit Makers!/Time to Dream contains two albums from 1953 and 1956, respectively. The Hit Makers! is an early greatest-hits collection that includes the number one hit "How High the Moon," which has been cited by some critics as a contender for the title of first rock & roll recording. The Hit Makers! also has "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise," the distinctive sound of which was lampooned by Stan Freberg in a hit comedy recording. Time to Dream tones down the tape manipulation for a program of torch songs delivered in the most straightforward manner of any of the albums reissued in Collectables' series. The album spawned no hits, apparently because none of the recordings were issued on singles. The pairing of a greatest-hits collection with an uncharacteristic effort like Time to Dream gives listeners an opportunity to hear the many sides of Les Paul and Mary Ford on a single disc. ~ Greg Adams
