This fifth release by Swedish metal heroes Burst finds the experimental wunderkinds continuing to gleefully ignore all genre boundaries in metal and beyond. Jumping from death vocal growls to thrash breakdowns to elegiac passages of psychedelia sometimes in the same song (see the epic "Cripple God"), LAZARUS BIRD does not mess around with preconceptions of what metal is supposed to sound like. "We Are Dust" and "Nineteenhundred" are other stand-outs that foreground Robert Reinholdz and Jonas Rydberg's monstrous twin guitar work, while "I Exterminate the I" features another band calling card: the vocal tension wrought between the more melodic Reinholdz and the vein-popping screamer, Linus Jagerskog.
