On 2008's LIFE UNDERWATER, its first album for Victory Records, the Tennessee-based metalcore group Across Five Aprils offers up another set of songs that alternate between harsh noise and disarming melody. While certain tracks are rooted in darkness and discord (the ferocious title track), other tunes, such as "Faith Shaped Pill" and "This Mean Not Welcome" present catchy, sing-along moments amidst the screams and cacophony.
