Living Blues - 5-6/91
"...takes an honorable place in the Dupree discography...Over 80 years old and the man remains an avatar of blues music...Dupree's sincerity envelops songs concerning booze, paramours, transcending life's downs; his words never come forth cliched...The selection that packs a punch emotionally is "Freedom," his chat about the great value of universal brotherhood."
By far the best of Dupree's three albums for Bullseye Blues, this collection was cut during the pianist's first trip home to the Crescent City in 36 long years. With his longtime accompanist Kenn Lending on guitar, Dupree sounds happy to be back in his old stomping grounds throughout the atmospheric set. ~ Bill Dahl
