3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's awesomeness to be had; the opening riff of 'Coiled Like A Snake' is like the one that got away from James Hetfield back in '82..."
Paste (magazine) (p.54) - "Brandishing Flying V guitars and wonderfully out-of-vogue unkempt mops of hair, Early Man makes no attempt to hide its influences."
Early Man is as willfully primitive as their band name indicates. The music on the BEWARE THE CIRCLING FIN EP is frozen in time around 1980, when rudimentary metal acts like Venom were toughening up the British metal style of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with renegade anti-technique. Whether or not Early Man is holding something back, or if they're really this raw, is, of course, beside the point. The title track's circular riffs gain menace over its five-minute run time, and classic headbangers like "Coiled like a Snake" leave whipmarks in their wake.
