Dennis Brown was one of the few traditional reggae singers able to make the leap to the newer, more electronic form of dancehall reggae. This is largely because he was such a brilliant singer that he could have done an album of polkas and his Jamaican fans would have bought it by the truckload. His final album before his untimely death in early 1999, GENEROSITY is typical of his final years.
Brown's heavily R&B-influenced voice blends perfectly with the hip-hop-influenced tracks here. "Journey Man," "Hooks on Me" and the openly spiritual title track are all highlights, with the exquisite "Warm, Nice and Easy" standing as one of Brown's finest and most soulful ballads. GENEROSITY has a warmth and depth often missing from dancehall reggae, which only makes Brown's sudden death shortly after this album's release that much more of a loss.
