In the early 1950s, Hollywood went "space crazy" with science-fiction feature films and television series. Inspired by Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and other pulp sci-fi heroes, Rocky Jones: Space Ranger
was one of the top TV series of the space fantasy genre that a decade later would inspire such shows as "Star Trek" and eventually the Star Wars
movies. Richard Crane stars as that paragon of virtue, Rocky Jones, captain of the spacecraft "Orbit Jet," ably assisted by his crack team of Winky, Bobby, Vena and Professor Newton. Join Rocky and his friends as they thwart evil-doers around the galaxy, such as the sultry space femme fatale, Cleolanta.
Included in this special 5-disc DVD compilation are 16 original episodes of Rocky Jones: Space Ranger, a sci-fi feature film Missile To The Moon, a bonus episode from the TV series "Flash Gordon," plus an original documentary Sci-Fi Heroes.
Although not as well-known as other retro sci-fi wonders such as BUCK ROGERS or LOST IN SPACE, ROCKY JONES: SPACE RANGER still commands a cult following. The creaky special effects and stiff acting only make the show more endearing, as this selection of episodes demonstrates.
