In the liner notes to ROMANTIC THEMES, Chip Davis (the man behind Mannheim Steamroller), gives listeners a window into his composition and song selection process by describing the memories he attaches to each piece. This little touch is indicative of the personal nature of the performances here. Listening to Davis's unique (and pioneering) combination of orchestral textures and modern synthesizer sounds, one gets the impression that these songs have a special place in the heart of the artist.
"The Circle of Love" combines moody, low-pitched strings with glockenspiel to evoke lazy days spent lounging about with a loved one. The insistent piano figure and dramatic, Aaron Copland-esque flourishes of "Teddys and Hearts" seem to suggest a soundtrack fitting for the graceful passage of a relationship into middle age. A soothing and heartwarming collection perfect for Valentine's Day, ROMANTIC THEMES can no doubt help kindle the spark of amour on a variety of occasions.
