Personnel: Dave Edmunds (vocals, guitar, various instruments); Bob Andrews (piano); Nick Lowe (bass); Pique Withers (drums); Brinsley Schwarz.
This is Dave Edmund's second solo album. Released in 1975, it's a tour-de-force of '50s and '60s rock writing, production, and arrangement styles. Edmunds' love for the Everly Brothers, Ray Charles, and Phil Spector (to name but three of the many reference points) runs deep, without resorting to mere mimicry. The album was recorded and produced by Edmunds, who also does all the singing and guitar playing. Two tracks were recorded live, with accompaniment by Brinsley Schwarz. Nick Lowe was the bass player in that band, and he also plays on the rest of this album. He and Edmunds spent nearly a decade playing together in Rockpile, which was also the title of Edmunds' first album. Though Lowe's "She's My Baby" is a more contemporary-sounding track, it still blends in seamlessly.
