A swarthy, good looking American named Caine (Burt Reynolds ) arrives in a small dusty hole-in-the-ground town in the Sudan after having escaped government soldiers who nearly seized him with a truckload of illegal arms. Later Cain looking for an escape from the police meets up with Anna (Silvia Pinal) and Dr. Mallare (Barry Sullivan), an ichthyologist looking for rare fish specimens. Anna convinces Caine to sign on as a deck hand. That night Cane finds out he is more then just a deck had, he is a partner as they dive for $2,000.000.00 in gold in shark-infested waters. As they dive begins and the drama grows Caine realizes he is off to an appointment with dangerous shark.
How much is $2 million in gold really worth' When Caine (Burt Reynolds) joins the crew of a ship in an attempt to elude the authorities, he gets a lot more than he bargained for. The ship's mission is to retrieve $2 million of gold from water teeming with sharks, and Caine is the more than just a deckhand. He learns sharks are far more deadly than cops when he has to dive for the treasure.
