The 16th installment in Collectables' exhaustive, multi-volume series of doo wop releases, each disc of which collects 25 rare or regional 45s remastered from original sources. Highlights this time out include the Encounters' insistent "Don't Stop," the Love Notes' lively and equally insistent "Don't Go," the galloping "Shelly" by the Velons, the Hemlocks' "Coralee," and the Velvets' "They Tried," which features some pretty intriguing piano lines, many of which veer into edgy discord. Fans and collectors of the genre will be delighted with the volumes in this series, while casual listeners may well find the whole thing a serious case of overkill. ~ Steve Leggett
