Butch & Sundance: The Early Years
: A prequel to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
, chronicling the two outlaws' lives in the years before the events portrayed in the hit Paul Newman/Robert Redford movie.
Death Hunt: Set in the '30s, Mountie Millen (Lee Marvin) is assigned to track down accused murderer Johnson (Charles Bronson), who has escaped in the high passes of the Canadian Rockies. Johnson, a trapper, has extensive knowledge of wilderness living, but Millen has the resources of the Canadian police at his beck and call.
This adventure-themed two-for-one offers a pair of unrelated titles issued by 20th Century Fox over a two-year-span. First on the bill is Richard Lester's gentle western comedy BUTCH AND SUNDANCE: THE EARLY DAYS (1979), starring Tom Berenger and William Katt in the roles originated by Robert Redford and Paul Newman. As written by Allan Burns (THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW), the movie depicts the initial meeting of the two famed titular outlaws, their awkward early robberies, a secret that made them closer than brothers, and ultimately, the train heist that helped turn them into legends before their time. The supporting cast includes Peter Weller, Jill Eikenberry and Christopher Lloyd. Next up is the 1981 thriller DEATH HUNT, with Charles Bronson as Albert Johnson, a trapper who shoots and kills a man in self-defense at his cabin - and gets relentlessly pursued by a no-holds-barred law officer, Sgt. Edgar Millen (Lee Marvin) - who has absolutely no idea what he's in for.
