The 2010 Rarities Edition of 461 Ocean Boulevard contains the second disc from Polydor/Chronicles' 2004 Deluxe Edition reissue of Eric Clapton's 1974 classic. This means that it doesn't contain all the bonus material from that Deluxe Edition -- the first disc was expanded with five session outtakes, all of which have been previously released on other reissues -- but instead concentrates on highlights from two concerts Clapton gave at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on December 4 and 5, 1974. Here, Clapton also sounds a little bit too laid-back, particularly on the acoustic material, but he does have some fine moments scattered through the disc -- perhaps not enough to satisfy anybody aside from dedicated fans, but that's who the reissue is for, provided that they didn't pick this up as part of the Deluxe Edition. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
