This two-fer CD includes the entirety of two of the Everly Brothers' early albums for Warner Brothers Records, 1961's BOTH SIDES OF AN EVENING and 1962's INSTANT PARTY.
European remaster includes seven extra songs.
CD contains 8 bonus tracks.
The two-LP-on-one-CD Both Sides of an Evening/Instant Party doesn't have nearly the level of interest of its companion volume (It's Everly Time/A Date With the Everly Brothers), and it is definitely not the place to start hearing the Everly Brothers' Warner Bros. sides. But it does have just enough good quality (and little-heard) album tracks to make it worthwhile for serious fans. The two original LPs' contents have been rounded out with the accompanying singles, which are mostly very familiar -- among the oddities that aren't well known is the duo's well-intended but failed cover of the Pomus/Shuman "It's Been Nice." The real value for most fans, however, will be the detailed historical annotation -- including interviews with the duo -- telling of the behind-the-scenes machinations involving both of the albums. The sound is also very good, and considering the neglect of the duo's music by Warner Bros.' American division, the company's overseas arm is to be commended in any case for this effort. ~ Bruce Eder
