Product Description:
Personnel: Kid Ory, Alvin Alcorn, Phil Gomez, Lionel Reason, Julian Davidson, Wellman Braud, Minor Hall.
Kid Ory was one of the pivotal figures of early jazz, and his approach to the trombone influenced virtually everyone that followed him. That he was mentor to the likes of King Oliver and Louis Armstrong is no small credit to his name either. Though Ory's glory days were in the 1920s and '30s, he continued playing and recording all through the '40s, '50s, and '60s.
LEGENDARY KID was recorded in 1955, and though the jazz world had been revolutionized by the advent of bebop, Ory was nowhere near his expiration date and could still swing with the best of them, as he proves on this set. In a small-group setting, the Kid runs through such classics as "Mahogany Hall Stomp" and "At the Jazz Band Ball," and ends up with one of the finest albums in his discography.
