The J. Geils Band averaged one album per year for most of the 1970s, so after returning fully to form with their exceptional 1974 studio album NIGHTMARES AND OTHER TALES FROM THE VINYL JUNGLE, it shouldn't have come as a surprise that the band issued HOTLINE just one year later. Although it's understandably not as strong as the exceptional NIGHTMARES, like all of the J. Geils albums of the '70s, HOTLINE is another solid outing.
After a few releases that had found the band turning their backs on cover songs, HOTLINE features several, most notably a great reading of Curtis Mayfield's "Believe in Me." Also featured is the soul-funk kick of the album opener "Love-Itis," as well as the moderately paced "Think it Over."
