MUSIC FROM EUROPE, the second album from German multi-instrumentalist Gunter Hampel, was recorded and released originally in 1966. For these compositions, Hampel provided his quartet with pre-set structural foundations, but left plenty of room for free improvising. Hampel plays bass clarinet, vibes, and flute, and is joined by Willem Breuker (on clarinets and saxophones) and a fierce rhythm section. ESP re-released this inside-outside gem on CD in 2008.
