The sexy, danceable, early-1970s Miami Sound is much in evidence on this double-CD release of two of singer Gwen McCrae's finest albums from that decade. ROCKIN' CHAIR's title track, a grinding, swaying slice of dance-floor erotica, was McCrae's only U.S. pop hit, but the rest of the songs here, from the raw, funky "Move Me Baby" to the wonderfully titled "Your Love Is Worse Than a Cold," live up to its high standard. There's more vintage Miami Sound on 1978's LET'S STRAIGHTEN IT OUT, which takes McCrae in a more pop direction with a fiery, string-accompanied version of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," and her bluesy rendition of the title track, first recorded by her fellow Southern R&B artist, Latimore.
