Movie Lover: BOBBY HATLEY
SAN DIEGO, CA US
-- June, 2, 2013
Fine performances by Mitchum and Simmons under the firm hand of Otto Preminger and sup-ported by solid performances by the rest of the cast. But, there is nothing in the girl's spoiled and manipulative personality which is attractive in spite of Simmons' physical charms. Also, one wonders why Mitchum would have given up his sweetheart, Mona Freeman, for the spoiled British girl. Mitchum seemed to have been drawn to her Jaguar XK-120 Le Mans more and the promise by his father-in-law that his racing ambitions would be supported than to the woman.
Freeman has one of the best scenes at the end of the film when she turns away Mitchum, telling him she needed a husband who also would be there for her, which Mitchum never was.
