Personnel: Nick Brignola (soprano, alto, & baritone saxophones, clarinet); Randy Brecker (trumpet); Rufus Reid (bass); Kenny Barron (piano); Dick
Recorded at Van Gelder Recording Studios, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on October 8, 1990. Includes liner notes by Peter Leitch.
Brignola is matched with playing equals, and he comes out burning. He also plays alto sax and clarinet in addition to his customary baritone and soprano. Pianist Kenny Barron and bassist Rufus Reid lift any session, while drummer Dick Berk defers to them, but doesn't lose the reins while doing so. Randy Brecker takes a welcome break from fusion and studio work to show that his trumpet chops can handle hard bop and mainstream fare. ~ Ron Wynn
