Description by OLDIES.com:
was an ambitious western drama set in the 1960's, starring Earl Holliman as champion all-around rodeo cowboy Mitch Guthrie and Andrew Prine as his younger brother Andy, an aspiring rodeo star himself. The hard living, hard loving life of the professional rodeo circuit rider provides a colorful background to the struggles of the two brothers, with Mitch trying to discourage Andy from pursuing his ambition to emulate his older brother in the arena. Slim Pickens, a rodeo cowboy himself, makes several appearances.
"Second Chances," the pilot for Wide Country starring Cliff Robertson, is included as a special Bonus Feature, along with exclusive interviews with the stars of Wide Country, Earl Holliman and Andrew Prine.
Western series proliferated on U.S. television during the postwar years, but WIDE COUNTRY was perhaps the only one set in the 1960s. It starred Earl Holliman (CRY PANIC!) as Mitch Guthrie - a world champion cowboy making a living on the rodeo circuit. Though the character achieved success, he was all too familiar with the struggles that the lifestyle presented, and therefore attempted to steer his younger brother, Andy (Andrew Prine of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN) away from his own rodeo dreams - fearing the future that could lay in store for the young man. Episodes focused mainly on the development of the relationship between the siblings. The program featured a who's who of guest stars, including Slim Pickens, Dan Duryea, Claude Akins and Eddie Albert. This box set offers 28 episodes of the program, full and complete as they originally aired.
