Sugarhill Records: Roots of Rap

The Sugarhill Gang are widely regarded as having "invented" hip hop. With their bouncy beats, silly personas, and lighthearted rhymes which covered subjects like food, the trio inspired a massive music movement. Their record label, Sugarhill Records, release early material from other, more political, pioneers of rap like Grandmaster Flash. ROOTS OF RAP explores this magnificent birth, and features infamous songs like "Pump Me Up," "The Message," and the hit that started it all, "Rapper's Delight."
