The Wire - p.62
"The results are an absolute pleasure. On 'Welcome To Versailles,' you sense that it's not just the musicians having fun but the instruments themselves, given license to speak in freeform, modernistic tongues..."
Clash (magazine) (p.104) - "Mesmerising. Ethereal. Dominant....A listen that somehow manages to compel, unsettle and inspire in equal measure."
Audio Mixer: Murcof.
Recording information: Studio Getsound, Paris, France.
On 2008's THE VERSAILLES SESSIONS, Mexico-born/Spain-based electronica artist Murcof (aka Fernando Corona) draws inspiration from his European neighbors for a series of tracks created specifically for a French festival at Chateau de Versailles. An exercise in minimalism, the record, which is not considered to be one of Murcof's regular studio albums, employs haunting wordless vocals and spare instrumentation to intriguing effect.
