Erin Bode is a jazz singer in the sense that her contemporaries Norah Jones, Nellie McKay, and Melody Gardot are jazz singers: it's easier to call her that than to mention the acoustic folk, singer-songwriter rock, and adult-contemporary pop influences that also define her work. THE LITTLE GARDEN, her third album overall but first for a large label, is the St. Louis-based singer's most accomplished work yet, incorporating her myriad influences into a coherent whole that keeps her distinctively high-pitched, appealingly girlish voice front and center.
