This is a rare live recording from 1968 capturing Terry Riley in all his trance-inducing psychedelic glory. "Poppy Nogood & The Phantom Band" made its studio debut on the effervescent A RAINBOW IN CURVED AIR--originally released on Columbia Masterworks--which actually utilized loops and snippets from this live recording itself. Ever the minimalist, Riley never strays harmonically from a rudimentary modal scale in his improvisations. But his ingenious use of tape delays and loops, plus the rich timbre of soprano saxophone and organ, makes for one mind-blowing experience.
