Although Mississippi John Hurt had been performing and recording since the 1920s, it wasn't until the early '60s that Hurt's unique picking and laid-back singing style were rediscovered in a big way. Musicologist Tom Hoskins encouraged the singer to play at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival, and his career revival took off. These 10 tracks, culled from the few recordings he made for Vanguard before his death in '66, capture the blues/folk master at his mellow mid-career best.
