The late great Jimmy Rushing was a singer on the cusp of both jazz and blues. He had the boisterous style of a blues shouter and the warmth and mellow finesse of a jazz singer. This volume of VISIONARIES presents a cross-section of his mid-1950s recordings for the Vanguard label. You get both sides of Rushing on this budget-priced set, from the rollicking blues of "See See Rider" to the classy reverie of "Pennies From Heaven." While it doesn't cover his entire career, this set still makes for a tidy introduction to the unique Mr. Rushing.
