Although the Partridge Family were revered by collectors of '70s bubblegum for years, it wasn't until 2000--when a pair of TV movies and a VH1 BEHIND THE MUSIC appeared over the course of a few months--that any of their albums were properly reissued.
THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY NOTEBOOK, one of their later albums making its very first CD appearance, is a worthy addition to the group's CD canon, as it shows the group towards the end of their relatively brief career, with all of the changes and tensions that implies. David Cassidy's lead vocals are deeper and more mature-sounding, which makes the cover of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" more impressive than it might otherwise be. Of the originals, "Friend And A Lover," the perky "Maybe Someday" and the Davy Jones-like "Take Good Care of Her" are the highlights.
