Product Description:

The 1980 volume of Rebound's Class Reunion series contains the usual eclectic mix of material as the other entries. Irene Cara's star-making debut, "Fame," the title song from the highly successful movie, makes the cut, as does Meco's "The Empire Strikes Back Medley," from the year's biggest flick. Kool & the Gang's lone number one pop hit (and ubiquitous sporting event song), "Celebration," is one of two chart-toppers (along with Lipps Inc.'s "Funkytown") here. Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind" might have stalled at number two, but it did provide the introduction to one of 1980's most notable individual success stories, heralding an album that would produce four hits and win several Grammys. The country-pop of Pure Prairie League's "Let Me Love You Tonight," with future country star Vince Gill singing lead, managed to click as a Top Ten pop and adult contemporary hit, and Benny Mardones' toweringly melodramatic "Into the Night" lodged itself in the charts for the first time (it would chart again in 1989). ~ Tom Demalon
