This timely resurrection of the late Roger Troutman's silicon chip R&B oeuvre collects synth- and voicebox-driven cuts like the hit slow cyber-jam "Computer Love," as well as the monster groove of "California Love." As can be heard from the irresistible disco boogie of "Dance Floor," Troutman was instrumental in George Clinton's 1970s P-Funk sound: elements of many of these much-sampled tracks will also be familiar to discerning hip-hop fans from their subsequent appearances in recordings by artists like the Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. Though Troutman was murdered by his brother/manager, Larry, in 1999, his musical legacy survives.
