Shane Barnard and Shane Everett's 2004 album CLEAN is a palatable combination of their trademark heartfelt harmonies, and poppy, smoothly polished, acoustic guitar-based rock, harnessed in service of their Christian worship message. Centered around the themes of grace and the tension between humanity's sense of truth versus that of the Almighty, the record kicks off with the straightforward message of "Saved By Grace," with its beguilingly simple chorus, while the downtempo "Fringes," with its subtle arrangement and swaying rhythm, accentuates the duo's growing musical confidence. Familiarity comes with an energetic, crowd-pleasing cover of Twila Paris's classic "He Is Exalted." "Waging War" is a deceptively restrained plea for spiritual and temporal peace, while "Make Believe Jesus" is a stirring hymn and a prayer for simple faith. Inspiring and joyful, CLEAN demonstrates that Shane & Shane's skill at combining their passionate message with impeccable musical skills is undiminished.
