The collection is at its best when it stays close to traditional South American music and doesn't overpower the field recordings, as on "Solitude on the Lago Roca," "Cape Horn -- Stormy Southerly Point," and "Gateway to the Pacific -- Mar des Su." Despite some cheap-sounding keyboard textures on some of the tracks, Tranquil World: Land of Fire Forgotten Trails is a soothing, fairly exotic collection that finds a harmonious balance between music and nature. ~ Heather Phares
