Thirty years before the tragic events of 9/11, another September bore witness to a spectacular airline hijacking that changed the course of history. On September 6, 1970, a radical militant group simultaneously hijacked four European passenger jets in an act of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. While no one died in the incident, the event not only ushered in the rash of 1970s-era hijackings but set the stage for the use of terrorism as a political tool. Produced by award-winning documentarian Ilan Ziv, this episode of PBS's American Experience series explores the repercussions of that historic September day through archival footage and interviews with actual participants.
