This budget CD features two popular Doo Wop groups, Shep & The Limelites and The Heartbeats. Each group showcases five of their best recordings. Includes the hit songs "Daddy's Home" by Shep & The Limelites and "A Thousand Miles Away" by The Heartbeats.
During the early R&B era, groups often toured in packages, taking the stage for a quick set of four or five songs, then clearing out of the way for the next act to do their four or five songs, and in some ways, that's what this "meets" series from Collectables feels like, as it combines two R&B vocal artists -- five songs apiece. This one, though, is a little bit different. It features five songs each by the groups the Heartbeats and Shep & the Limelites, but since both were vehicles for the expressive, Sam Cooke-like singing voice of James Sheppard (Sheppard was a member of the Heartbeats in the '50s and then formed Shep & the Limelites in 1961), this set sounds a little more unified than the other entries in the series.
