"...Deliriously arch....Heche hams it up just right..."
Framed for murdering her lover, Carol Madison (Ione Sky) is forced to endure life behind bars in John McNaughton's GIRLS IN PRISON. Carol finds the going rough in the big house and eventually joins a gang run by two hardened convicts, Jennifer (Anne Heche) and Aggie (Missy Crider). Together they fend off the crooked warden and plan a daring breakout.
With a crackling script cowritten by legendary screenwriter-director Samuel Fuller, characteristically provocative direction by McNaughton (HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER), and steamy performances from Hecht, Crider, and Skye, GIRLS IN PRISON has all the ingredients for a sizzlingly good time. McNaughton takes his first dive into lesbian erotica (he would go even further in WILD THINGS), bestowing upon viewers a racy shower scene in which Carol is seduced by one of her fellow inmates. In the tradition of classic women-behind-bars films such as CAGED HEAT, WOMEN IN CAGES, and CAGED FURY, GIRLS IN PRISON is both a satisfyingly overstuffed collection of guilty pleasures and a campy noir thriller.
Description by Buena Vista Home Entertainment.:
Girls In Prison
Big-screen stars Anne Heche (SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS) and Ione Skye (ONE NIGHT STAND) heat up the big house in this cool and campy takeoff of "women-behind-bars" movies! Aggie is a sweet young songstress having a hard time making it in the sleazy music biz ... though it's not nearly as hard as the "time" she'll have to do for a murder she didn't commit! Yet even in the slammer, she's targeted by the same shady characters responsible for her fiendish frame-up! Featuring some of Hollywood's most memorable "bad-girl" performances, including the year's steamiest shower scene -- you're sure to get caught up as Aggie fights to be declared innocent before she's silenced forever!
Originally produced for Showtime, GIRLS IN PRISON is a seamy, exploitative big-house yarn in the tradition of the eponymous 1956 film and its genre ilk. A Hollywood ingenue takes the fall for her boss's ice job and finds herself packed in the cooler with a passel of lovely, troubled lady cons.
