Rating 5.0 Murder By Decree Movie Lover: from Melbourne, Victoria AU -- January, 29, 2008

Absolutely the best Sherlock Holmes film ever made! And the best Jack The Ripper film ever made! Christopher Plummer is no match for Basil Rathbone and James Mason is not as good as Nigel Bruce, but the film is a wonder to behold. The atmosphere, the production values, the attention to detail, the cast, the cinematography, the editing...everything about this very much under-rated film is cinematic gold! Trust me...this is an absolute gem!!

Rating 5.0 Excellent Movie that Combines Fact and Fiction Movie Lover: from Saint Paul, MN US -- November, 7, 2007

While Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are fictional characters, this movie does an excellent job of merging these characters with claimed factual accounts of Ripper murders. There are many similarities in the storyline of this movie and the later movie "FROM HELL" starring Johnny Depp--also very much worth viewing. The cast and the sets are top notch, and the movie is both entertaining and somewhat thought-provoking as we continue to ponder the true identity of Jack the Ripper and the events surrounding those strange times in the London of the late 19th Century.
