The British television series THE AVENGERS ran from 1961 to 1969. It featured a stylish detective duo investigating bizarre crimes in hour-long mystery/adventure dramas. It also inspired the 1998 Hollywood film THE AVENGERS starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. The original duo of anthropologist, marksman, and judo expert Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) and undercover operative/man-about-town John Steed (Patrick Macnee) is on the case in six complete episodes from the '63 season.
Episodes include:
"The Undertakers" - A businessman has some unwelcome visitors in the form of two undertakers bearing a coffin for the still-alive man! Steed and Cathy Gale are soon on the case, going undercover to resolve the mysterious events.
"Man With Two Shadows" - Steed discovers he has a double, trained to replicate his entire persona. Cathy is sent to solve the dilemma, and kill Steed's double, but will she be able to tell the difference between the two men?
"The Nutshell" - An investigation into a break-in at a top-secret military base appears to implicate Steed into the crime, resulting in his arrest for treason.
"Death of a Batman" - A legacy of £180,000 is left when a former batman of Steed's passes away, and some shady characters appear out of the woodwork in an attempt to make off with the cash.
"November 5th" - A murdered politician and a missing warhead lead to an intense case for Steed and Cathy. When it transpires that the politician is far from dead, and about to detonate the warhead, November 5th (England's fireworks-laden Guy Fawkes Day) could be about to go out with a bang!
"The Gilded Cage" - Steed and Cathy seek help from master criminal J.P. Spagge in an attempt to steal £3 million in gold, leading to Cathy's implication in Spagge's murder.
