The program discusses both the artistic creations themselves and the remarkable individuals who made them, such as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Brunelleschi. The second program in the set, 'Baroque Art,' travels to the Baroque period of the late 16th century through the early 18th century - the era that witnessed crowned heads and the clergy using art to express their own desire for pomp and extravagance. The film places a particularly strong emphasis on the artist Bernini, St. Peter's complex, the palace of Versailles and the royal buildings of Vienna. Finally, the third installment in the set, 'Rococo Art,' journeys into the 18th century era that witnessed artists relinquishing symmetrical lines, angles and shapes for an increased sense of playfulness. This was the world of the legendary salonnières, of maisons de plaisance and the palace of Frederick II, the king of Prussia.
