Product Description:

Photographers: Les Leverett; David Redfern; Dean Dixon .
A reissued version of 2001's ULTIMATE COLLECTION, THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION presents many of the finest tunes performed and penned by Tom T. Hall. Like fellow country luminaries Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, Hall was known as an in-demand songwriter before becoming a recording artist, debuting with the 1967 single "I Washed My Face in the Morning Dew," which, oddly enough, is not included on this 24-track disc. That omission aside, the compilation does feature plenty of Hall classics, including "A Week in the County Jail" and "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine," two tunes that showcase the Kentucky-born artist's deep, no-frills vocals and plain-spoken yet witty way with a narrative. Although some later tracks on THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION are mired in slick late-'70s/early-'80s production--particularly the poppy, horn-laden "Faster Horses (The Cowboy and the Poet)"--Hall's charm always shines through, making this disc an ideal overview of his heyday.
