From his roots as a Missouri farmer to his tenure in the White House, and as the man who made the decision to drop the first atomic bomb, this HBO production traces the storied career of U.S. President Harry S. Truman. Based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography.

Plot Synopsis:

A telefilm biography about Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. The story covers Truman's early political career, including his stints as a senator and vice-president, and later his triumphant defeat of Thomas Dewey to become chief of state. Truman's actions as president also come under scrutiny, including his decision to drop the A-bomb on Hiroshima, and his historic meetings with George Marshall and Gen. MacArthur. In addition, the film sheds light on Truman's private life, particularly his relationship with his devoted wife Bess.
