Like the first, the second volume of The Right Stuff's '70s Soul Jam features performances from the Stylistics, the Dramatics, the Chi-Lites, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and it also adds a pair of selections from the Main Ingredient's Cuba Gooding. Again, the title is misleading since the material captured here was performed in 2001 -- though, to The Right Stuff's credit, shots from the performances are featured in the artwork and thus make it apparent that the label isn't trying to trick anyone. The vocal performances are strong, but the groups are down to one or two original members and the musical backing is on the tinny side. Those who witnessed this tour might like to have these discs as souvenirs. Apart from that, there's little appeal since the original studio versions trump these lesser -- if impassioned -- renditions. Another irritation is that the first volume and this one can fit onto one CD; this is only 30 minutes in length. ~ Andy Kellman
